Myths vs Facts!

Its time to clear up the most common misconceptions based around massage treatments

Could you really do with a good massage to help ease all those aches and pains you deal with on a weekly or even daily basis?

Do you end up talking yourself out of it because of all the myths you have heard from friends or family members about the lack of beneficial factors? If so, keep reading!

This week, we will explore just a few of the most common misconceptions and how they should in most cases, be completely ignored!

MYTH:

“A massage won’t help ease my migraine”

FACT

Not only is it a known fact that a regular Head Massage can effectively help ease the pain of headaches and migraines, but it can also help to stop them from re-occurring. Most therapists will apply pressure to certain trigger points in the neck, shoulders and head to help release built-up tension which is the most common cause of those painfully irritating headaches.

MYTH:

“All massage treatments are the same”

FACT

If you are a ‘first-timer’, when it comes to massage, the vast range of options may seem overwhelming! However, do not let the many choices put you off. Each treatment offers something different from the lasting benefits, method and pressure points focused on, to the cost, setting and lasting effects. A simple google search or a friendly chat with a local massage therapist is the best course of action if you have no idea where to start!

Tracy, A Healing Touch will be more than happy to advise on the best treatment for you.

MYTH:

“Massage’s are so overpriced”

FACT

With most massage treatments starting at around £30-£40, you will want to make sure the treatment you book is the right one for you. Some feel that a simple 30-60 minute massage treatment should be charged at a much lower fee than it often is. After all, think about how many Skinny Latte’s you could buy with that money! However, with the time, effort, expertise and professionalism you will receive, many who have experienced a relaxing massage would agree it really is worth every penny!

MYTH:

“Never interrupt a massage therapist during treatment, even if the pressure is uncomfortable”

FACT

It is a common myth, that you should never interrupt a therapist during a massage - this could not be more wrong! Whether you have opted for a Full Body Massage or a Deep Tissue Massage, the treatment should be relaxing and pleasurable, not painful and uncomfortable. Most therapists will ask what type of pressure you prefer when you arrive, this is the perfect time to be completely honest about what suits you best. If you change your mind during the treatment, do NOT hesitate in asking for a slight change in pressure. A good therapist will be more than happy to accommodate.

MYTH:

“Pregnant women are unable to have a massage of any kind”

FACT

Did you know, getting a 1-hour massage is the equivalent of getting 8 hours of sleep?!

However, It is vitally important when thinking about having a massage as a pregnant woman, that you opt for a pregnancy massage carried out by a trained professional.

The treatment you receive should be soothing, relaxing and the perfect remedy for reducing all those daily aches and pains you just can't seem to get rid of. Not only is it the perfect relaxation method for the mother-to-be, but it will also help to get your baby moving around in your tummy by pressing on certain pressure points.
